01 -Project Overview

Simplifying vehicle ownership for the modern driver

My Skoda is a connected car management app that brings vehicle health, maintenance history, and upcoming service needs into one clear, actionable experience — eliminating the friction between Skoda owners and their cars.
Existing manufacturer apps offered appointment booking but fell short on transparency: no real-time service tracking, opaque pricing, and complex vehicle onboarding. My Skoda rethinks the entire ownership journey from first tap to post-service.

Double Diamond

The Double Diamond framework brought structure and focus to a tight project timeline — balancing divergent exploration with focused decision-making at every phase. It helped quickly eliminate low-value ideas and focus solutions on the areas with the greatest user and business impact.

03 - Requirements

Design Process

Simplify vehicle ownership

Bring car health, maintenance history, and upcoming service needs into one clear, actionable experience — reducing cognitive load and increasing confidence in vehicle care.

User Need

A single, seamless mobile experience

A digital car management system that lets users track vehicle status, manage maintenance schedules, monitor service history, and stay informed — all from one app.

04 - Pain Points

What was broken for users

01

Limited Service Visibility

Existing apps support appointment booking but provide limited visibility into service progress, estimated completion time, and real-time vehicle status.

02

Lack of Cost Transparency

Users have no clear understanding of expected service costs until work is completed, creating financial uncertainty and eroding trust.

03

Complex Vehicle Onboarding

Adding a vehicle involves multiple manual steps — a process tedious enough to abandon, preventing users from experiencing the app's core value.

06 - Key Features

Designed for the moments that matter

Authentication

Login & Signup

Easy to login with numerous options

Phone number or email with OTP or password — flexible authentication removing the first barrier to entry.

Onboarding

Add Cars Like a Pro

Scan QR · Enter VIN · Instant setup

Scan the vehicle QR code or enter VIN manually. Two paths that get users set up in under 60 seconds.

Control

Remote Controls

Lock · Start Engine · Flash Lights

Direct vehicle control from the palm of your hand. Contextual shortcuts surface the most-used commands front and center.

Maintenance

Health Report

Oil · Brake Pads · Engine · Air Filter

At-a-glance component health with percentage indicators. Users know exactly when each system needs attention.

09 - Outcome & Reflection

What this project taught me

The Double Diamond forced early discipline: resist jumping to solutions before fully understanding the problem space. The Eisenhower Matrix surfaced that Adding a New Car and Health Report had outsized impact relative to frequency. The biggest challenge was onboarding — designing a path that respected both tech-savvy users and those unfamiliar with VIN numbers or QR codes. The dual-path solution emerged directly from user observation.

Key Insight

Users don't want more information — they want the right information at the right moment.

Future Scope

Push notifications for service reminders, predictive maintenance via OBD-II data integration.
